The Plan
HEAL is an egalitarian
network of activists self-empowered to create change, plan events, and make the
world a better place. We focus on
liberation for humans, nonhuman animals, and the earth. We have created a network in which all
people are able to be productive and take action. We work interconnectedly with other liberation groups and,
hopefully, are part of a growing movement to bring everyone together.

Alternatives to Dissection Petition Now! Why Should You Sign The Alternatives to Dissection Petition?
The SHOCKING reality is that over 50,000 teenagers a
year are subjected to private, institutionalized torture camps at their parents
and their parents’ insurances’ expense.
Over 300 American children have been killed in behavior modification
programs in the last ten years. Others
have been severely brutalized, raped, beaten, drugged, brainwashed, and
extensively tortured. These realities
are difficult to swallow and therefore most people turn a deaf ear and blind
eye to the experiences of survivors and the cries of the abused. We are asking that you choose to take a look
at the reality that is “behavior modification” in the United States today.
Institutionalized torture masked as “treatment” is
the second fastest growing industry in the United States today. Many abusive programs are advertised through
www.teenprogram.info
and www.mytroubledteen.com,
a Utah-based organization. The World
Wide Association of Specialty Programs and Schools (WWASPS) has been under
heavy suspicion for a long time from progressives for their abuse of teens. CA Representative George Miller demanded
that the Department of Justice investigate these programs because he had
received hundreds of reports of child torture and neglect, from his
constituents. The Department of Justice
refused to investigate. (For details,
visit http://www.washtimes.com/upi-breaking/20040109-104725-4985r.htm)
David Gilcrease, member of
the Gilcrease family that founded Phillips Petroleum based his “behavior
modification” techniques on the research of B.F. Skinner and Fritz Perls who
were experimenting with mind control/brainwashing in the 20th
century. He is founder of Resource
Realizations, which has been sued along with the Worldwide Association of
Specialty Programs and Schools (WWASPS) for mentally and physically torturing
and brainwashing America's children.
On the board of Phillips
Petroleum, Halliburton, and advisor to the Supreme Court is long time George
Bush associate Lawrence Eagleburger. On
the board of SkyWest Airlines, servicing and in seeming partnership with George
Bush airport in Texas is none other than J. Ralph Atkin, part owner of Teen
Help/WWASPS.
The largest Utah-based
corporate contributor to the Republican Party is World Wide Association of
Specialty Programs and Schools.
As of January 9th, 2004, California Representative George
Miller demanded an investigation into the WWASPS and the allegations of mind
control and physical and mental torture of America's youth in the United
States. John Ashcroft refused to
investigate claiming that the Federal Government had no jurisdiction in this
matter. This is absolutely false! The Federal Government absolutely has
jurisdiction to investigate fraud as well as civil and criminal allegations of
the most heinous nature, that of the torture (and killing) of children. According
to Representative Miller of California, “There is a laundry list of abuse of children at WWASPS
schools: deprivation of food, deprivation of contact with their peers, physical
abuse, mental abuse, sexual abuse, and parents are paying big money for
services not rendered," Miller added in a Nov. 6 news release.” This is taken from the Washington Times
article mentioned above.
Angela Smith, coordinator for HEAL, was severely
abused at Provo Canyon School in Provo, UT.
She wrote an article about it in the October ’03 issue of Ruckus. You can find that issue and scroll to the
story by visiting: http://students.washington.edu/~ruckus/vol-7/Issue2_Oct20_web.pdf. Jello Biafra speaks directly about the
abuses at Provo Canyon School in his spoken word album “No More Cocoons”. You can see online testimony from survivors
of Provo Canyon School by visiting: PCS & More Online Message Board, http://papamugz.tripod.com/, and www.beyondbusiness.net/index2.htm.
If you are as disgusted with this as we are, join us and take
action now! Sign the online petition at
http://www.beyondbusiness.net/closepcs.htm. Also, please contact the Utah Child
Protective Services at 1-800-374-7005 and tell them you demand an investigation
into all reportedly abusive behavior modification programs in Utah including
the World Wide Association of Specialty Programs and Schools and Provo Canyon
School. E-mail
the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and
demand that they remove their certification of Provo Canyon School. E-mail
the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools and demand they
remove their certification of Provo Canyon
School. E-mail
the Utah Department of Human Services and demand they revoke the
license for Provo Canyon School. Public
outcry is worth something and if enough people whisper a giant thunder will be
heard! Also, if you are a survivor of a
WWASPS or WWASPS-like program, please notify the United Nations Council on
Human Rights about the numerous violations of the International Treaty on Human
Rights that you experienced in a WWASPS or WWASPS-like program or any torturous
“behavior modification” program by visiting: http://www.unhchr.ch/html/hchr/contact.htm

Why
Should The UW Offer Alternatives to Dissection?
The University of Washington
must offer standard animal-free alternatives in all classes requiring
dissection of nonhuman animals. As a
public university, the UW has a special responsibility to its students, as well
as state and national taxpayers, to abide by the U.S. Constitution, including
the first amendment, which, guarantees freedom of religion. While dissection is a heatedly debated and
controversial issue, it must be concluded to be reasonable that those students
who oppose it on ethical and/or religious grounds should be given an
animal-free option in courses that require dissection.
Many universities have already
made the needed changes in efforts to respect diversity and embrace new
technologies. Universities that offer
alternatives include the University of California, University of Illinois,
University of Virginia, Harvard University, and Johns Hopkins Medical
School. The alternatives to dissection
available today include plastic models of dissected animals that students can
take apart, virtual dissection software, and three-dimensional films. The University of California and the
University of Virginia currently offer online virtual dissections as an
alternative.
Finally, Freedom of
Religion is a right under the first amendment.
Many orthodox religions, including Judaism, find touching or dealings
with dead animals "unclean" and therefore cannot fulfill such requirements,
as dissection, due to their religious tenets.
Because the University of Washington is a "public" (as opposed
to private) school, they have an obligation to respect and accommodate students
who are religiously opposed to participating in dissection. Students are being forced to choose career
over morality in many cases, which, sets an unpreferable standard for behavior
in the "real world." Since
this choice is unnecessary, it begs questioning (which we have done) the
University. As said previously, other
universities offer a standard option for students who oppose the use of
nonhuman animals. Since other
accredited public and private universities are offering standard alternatives
to dissection and/or not using dissection at all, it is only rational that the
University of Washington would be willing to give their students the same
alternatives. By not offering standard
alternatives they are bending the will of many less vocal students to submit to
their system or forget their career goals.
That isn't fair. And, in our
opinion, is a violation of the highest principle of human rights, that of free
will.
If you find that you agree that students
should be offered a standard alternative in Biology and Zoology lab courses,
please take a moment to sign the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/uwdisalt/petition.html. If you would like more information
regarding dissection alternatives and student rights please visit http://mail.rochester.edu/~nobs/dissection, http://www.dissectionchoice.org/faq.html, http://avar.org/avar_sep_2001_alternatives.pdf and http://www.internichebrasil.org/literatura/andrew2.htm. If you are a student being unfairly
discriminated against by the biology and zoology departments and wish to take
legal action, please contact

REIGN IN WAR-PROFITEERING: CALL YOUR SENATORS NOW!--Something is wrong. Every day, more information emerges about a
disturbing trend in Iraq, private contractors enriching themselves at public expense. Just today, more stories emerged about
Halliburton, including a report by auditors at the Pentagon that found serious
problems with overcharging and waste on contracts presently worth over $4
billion. Next week, executives of the
defense contractor are being called to testify before Congress on the growing
scandal. You CAN do something about
it. Call your Senators and ask
them to support the Leahy Amendment to deter war profiteering. You can reach the Senate switchboard at
(202) 224-3121. On Wednesday, June 16,
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) is expected to offer an amendment to the Department
of Defense Authorization Bill (S. 2400) that will deter contractors from
defrauding the government. Leahy’s
anti-war-profiteering amendment would subject contractors working abroad for Uncle
Sam with stiff penalties “up to 20
years in jail and $1 million in fines” if they overcharged, cheated, or lied to
the government. We need strong
bipartisan support for this amendment and we need your direct appeals to your
Senators to push this forward. So if
youre unhappy about contracting in Iraq, please call your Senators
and ask them to vote for the Leahy anti-war profiteering amendment. US Senate Switchboard: (202) 224-3121. For more information on the just-released
audit of Halliburton, see: http://www.sltrib.com/2004/Jun/06152004/nation_w/175543.asp
STOP
A SNEAK ATTACK ON YOUR CIVIL RIGHTS AND HEALTH CARE!-- Senator Rick
Santorum is trying to rush a bill to the Senate floor that is so badly written
that it could undermine civil rights protections in the workplace -- and make
health care less accessible, more discriminatory and riskier. This legislation would make it easier for
individuals to impose their religious beliefs on their coworkers or
customers. Unless stopped or amended, Senator Santorum’s bill would increase
the likelihood that employees could ignore an employer’s policies against
racial or religious harassment of coworkers. The Santorum legislation would strengthen the hand of police
officers who want to pick and choose who they will protect, and emergency
health care workers and mental health counselors who could abandon patients
because their care conflicts with the workers religious beliefs -- or
simply because the patient is gay or lesbian.
Take Action! Don’t let Congress open the door to religious
discrimination that will harm coworkers, patients or customers. Click here for more information and to urge
your Representative to oppose this legislation! http://www.aclu.org/ReligiousLiberty/ReligiousLiberty.cfm?ID=15917&c=29

DEMANDING EDUCATION FOR EVERYONE!—Tell Congress that it isn’t fair to limit access to higher
education based on past behavior!
Congress is currently working on legislation that would deny college to
anyone who has ever been convicted of a drug-offense! Regardless of the hard-work and dedication of reformed or
rehabilitated drug-users/addicts the government wants to deny this much needed
opportunity to them! This is a racist
policy to deny people of color (those who are prosecuted more than any other
members of society even though they do 1/10 of the crime). Please visit http://www.clickbackamerica.org/petition1.php?id=24

TELL THE TITAN
CORPORATION THAT TORTURE IS WRONG!-- » Please
write to the CEO of the Titan Corporation to express
your concern about the human rights risks associated with operating in a
complex environment such as Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, and to request
clarification about the company’s human rights policies and practices.
TELL OREGON THAT PRISONERS DESERVE READING MATERIALS!—The Oregon government is considering
limiting the number of books a prisoner can have to 10. Books are one of the few items that help
inmates keep some semblance of sanity and connection with the outside
world. It is cruel to deny them this
and it is ridiculous as well! It
benefits society to have educated and rehabilitated people, not stir-crazy
criminals released back into society when their time is up! Please e-mail Prison Rules Coordinator:
Carol Schooner at [email protected]
or telephone Coordinator Schooner at (503)945-9090. This action must be taken by June 21st, 2004!

HELP STOP
INDEFINITE AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL DETENTIONS!-- If you were classified as an “enemy
combatant” by the government, would you know your rights? Would you know that
you could be held indefinitely -- for days, weeks, or even years -- without a
trial or access to a lawyer? The Bush Administration’s classification of
prisoners as “enemy combatants” and holding them without charge violates
international law and the U.S. Constitution. If the government has evidence
that an individual is involved with terrorism, there are other, better, legal
options than detaining them without charge. By simply locking people away people
without giving them the chance to clear their name, the government is violating
their civil rights and increasing the chance that innocent people will be
improperly locked up. Right now, the
Supreme Court is considering whether indefinite detention without charge
violates federal law, in part because Congress has not approved such
detentions. The Court’s ruling on this practice is expected soon and the
Bush Administration may seek Congress’s endorsement if the case goes against
them. Now is the time to tell your
Members of Congress that you oppose the Bush Administration’s practice of
indefinite detention and you do not want Congress to endorse it. Our united voices have the power to make
change. Click here to make your voice heard: http://www.aclu.org/NationalSecurity/NationalSecurity.cfm?ID=15859&c=24

URGE
BUSH TO REFORM AMERICAN DETENTION POLICIES!-- Recent news headlines have offered a
deeply disturbing view of the U.S. government’s system of detentions and
interrogations in Iraq. Although much of the outrage has focused on
actions taken by individual soldiers, officers at high levels authorized
policies that may violate the Geneva Conventions and plainly played a role in
encouraging the even-more serious abuses depicted in the photographs. These recent events also highlight
deliberate efforts, approved by the Attorney General, the White House counsel
and in some cases by President Bush himself, designed to shield treatment of detainees
from the safeguards provided by international law, including the Geneva
Conventions, and from any scrutiny by United States or other courts. These actions appear to meet the definition
of torture under both international law and the United States criminal code --
and demonstrate the Bush Administration's continued disregard for international
standards of conduct and for checks and balances. President Bush must act
and ensure that American detention policies are in line with international law
and American values. Click here to get
more information and to send an email to President Bush: http://www.aclu.org/International/International.cfm?ID=15718&c=36
STOP
CONGRESS FROM ROLLING BACK KEY PRIVACY SAFEGUARDS!-- Acting in the
name of stopping terrorism, Members of Congress continue to seek expansion of
government power despite widespread concern about privacy and protection
against government abuse. One invasive piece of legislation being
stealthily pushed through the House would enhance the governments secret
power to obtain personal records without judicial review. It would also
limit judicial discretion over the use of secret evidence in criminal cases and
allow the use of secret intelligence wiretaps in immigration and possibly other
civil cases without notice or an opportunity to suppress illegally acquired
evidence. This proposed legislation would allow government agents to gather
information about you even if they have no reason to believe you were involved
with the commission of a crime. And, if your banker or travel agent told you
that the FBI had requested your private information, they could be
imprisoned. Take Action! Don’t let Congress roll back key checks
and balances over secret courts and government surveillance. Click here to get
more information and send a free fax to your Representative: http://www.aclu.org/NationalSecurity/NationalSecurity.cfm?ID=15629&c=24

PROMOTE SAFE
WORK ENVIRONMENTS AND WORKERS’ RIGHTS!-- Decades of struggles by workers and their
unions have made
workplaces safer. But the fight to protect
workers is getting more difficult. The Bush administration has joined with
business groups to roll back and block key worker protections—taking America in
the wrong direction. In fact, the Bush administration has the worst record on
safety rules in the entire history of Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA), the federal workplace safety agency. Please take one minute right now to take
action by clicking here: http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/april282004/8b8x5n2r8j5kj
URGE
CONGRESS TO STOP F***ING WITH THE CONSTITUTION NOW!—(Unless they
want to eliminate the part about enslaving the disproportionately
minority-based prison population, which they don’t!) In two weeks, the U.S. Senate will be considering yet another
proposal to amend the Constitution. This time, some Senators are taking
aim at the criminal justice system, proposing an amendment that would
jeopardize the principle that the accused are innocent until proven guilty, and
that everyone in this country has the right to a fair trial. The proposed amendment seeks to enshrine
victims rights in the Constitution and would give presumed victims
significant influence over the criminal justice process. This influence
would hinder law enforcement, impede prosecution and interfere the ability of
the accused to get a fair trial. In
addition, every state has either a state constitutional provision or law
protecting victims' rights, making this constitutional amendment unnecessary.
Furthermore, numerous victims' rights groups oppose the amendment because they
are concerned that battered women -- who are often arrested and charged with
assaulting their batterers -- would lose the right to a fair trial and presumed
innocence. Take action! Tell Congress
that this constitutional amendment is unnecessary and dangerous. Click here for more information and to send
a free fax to your Members of Congress: http://www.aclu.org/CriminalJustice/CriminalJustice.cfm?ID=9955&c=249
TELL CONGRESS THAT CENSORSHIP WILL NOT BE
TOLERATED!—Congress is considering two acts right now that would allow for
the banning of live or recorded music, dance clubs, raves, or any entertainment
event that they disapprove of under the guise of drug control/drug use
prevention. These acts are the Ecstasy
Awareness Act that would make anyone who financially benefits from such entertainment,
meaning bands, promoters, and venues criminally accountable if anyone attending
the show is using drugs or if they have any reason to suspect that drugs would
be used by attendees of the show. They
are also considering the Clean-Up Act which would make it a federal crime,
punishable by up to 9 years in prison, to promote any rave, dance club, music,
or other entertainment event, that takes place under circumstances where the
promoter ought to know that a controlled substance will be used or distributed. Please do not allow the drug war to validate
censorship of music and entertainment.
Contact congress today by visiting http://www.protectlivemusic.org/rave and tell
them to just say no to censorship!

OPPOSE
OVERREACHING AND PUNITIVE CRIME LAWS:
Less than 18 months after the Senate passed rational and balanced
federal juvenile justice legislation, two Senators have introduced a new
punitive bill that would expand the use of the death penalty and create new
ill-defined crimes. Under this proposed
legislation, people could be convicted and sentenced to death for ill-defined
illegal participation in a gang, which could be as few as three
people. The law’s loose definitions and
expansion of the death penalty would increase the probability that people are
wrongly convicted and possibly even convicted.
This legislation would interfere with the right to a fair trial. Astounding as it sounds, this measure could
also allow people to be given felony convictions for hanging out with people
who later go out and commit a crime. Take Action! Tell your Senators to oppose this punitive and irrational
legislation. Click here for more
information and to send a free fax to your Senators: http://www.aclu.org/CriminalJustice/CriminalJustice.cfm?ID=14925&c=15
STOP THE
UNDERMINING OF ROE V. WADE!: The House will be voting on a backdoor attempt
by anti-choice proponents to undermine the legal underpinnings of Roe v.
Wade. This attempt -- a proposed bill
promoted by anti-choice legislators and their allies -- would give a fetus
separate rights distinct from the woman. Although its proponents claim this
bill is meant to punish violence against women, they have rejected approaches
that would have punished violence -- including violence that causes the loss of
a pregnancy -- without creating new fetal rights. This unprecedented elevation of the status of a fetus in federal
law erodes the very foundation of the right to choose abortion. It is no accident that anti-choice groups
have drafted and circulated similar legislation all across the country. The
proponents of this bill have built their careers around banning abortion. This clearly shows that their true intent is
to undermine a woman's right to choose.

Under a proposal by President Bush, more than 8 million workers might
not be paid extra for the overtime hours they work. President Bush can make
these changes through executive order, even over objections from Congress.
Please show your support for overtime pay during the Overtime Pay National Week
of Action by signing the online petition at http://www.saveovertimepay.org/.
Over the last eight months, we've
fought to stop President Bush from getting rid of overtime and to stop the FCC
from changing its media ownership rules. Amazingly, we've won. But today, both
of these victories are at risk. Bush
is now pushing Congress to approve one of the biggest spending bills in its
history -- 820 billion dollars. He's also cutting lots of last-minute,
back-room deals that would reverse our victories on overtime and on media
ownership, while taking corporate giveaways to a whole new level. And he's trying to force votes on this 400
page bill before Democrats have had a chance to read it. Join us in calling on Congress to stop this
bill, at: http://www.moveon.org/looting/

OPPOSE WRITING
INTOLERANCE INTO THE CONSTITUTION: In issuing a bold ruling against
discrimination yesterday, the Massachusetts State Supreme Court has emboldened
those who want to amend the U.S. Constitution to deny the right to marry to
same-sex couples in committed relationships.
The Massachusetts ruling recognized that gay and lesbian Americans serve
in our military, keep our communities safe as firefighters and police officers,
staff our hospitals, build our cities and pay taxes. The Massachusetts court
ruled that the state cannot deny to gay couples the same marital legal rights
in pensions, health insurance, hospital visitations and inheritance that other
committed couples enjoy. Take Action!

the Constitution! ,Click here for more information and to send free faxes to

SUPPORT SENATE
BILL S. 1552--The Senate will soon begin considering an important bill that responds
to recent government actions and several of the PATRIOT Act's most grevious
provisions -- including one that allows government agents to conduct
"sneak and peek" searches of your home or office. Not only would the bill require a higher
standard of proof before allowing government access to highly private and
sensitive data (such as library, bookstore and medical records), it also bans
federal agencies from engaging in "data-mining" without explicit
congressional authorization. This
legislation would correct many of the PATRIOT Act's flaws and protect
constitutional rights threatened by other government actions. It deserves your full support. Take Action! Click here to get more

SUPPORT
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY!-- Both the Head Start bill and the Workforce Reinvestment Act as
passed by the House contain provisions that would allow religious organizations
to use government funding to discriminate.
This discrimination could be based on religion and other characteristics
the religious organizations might find objectionable -- such as marital status,
sexual orientation, gender or HIV status.
These provisions would violate the Constitution and would be an
unprecended roll back of civil rights. Click here to get more information and
to send your Senators a free fax: http://www.aclu.org/ReligiousLiberty/ReligiousLiberty.cfm?ID=13435&c=37
SAVE THE KIDS—The senate and
the house are working on passing a voucher program that will fund
religious-based private schools with our tax dollars. Religious-based private schools are exempt from most of the
regulations that keep kids safe and sane.
Many religion-based programs use behavior modification tools,
brainwashing, and abuse to dominate and control kids. Please tell your representatives today to oppose any legislation
that will put our money in the hands of such institutions... Not to mention the constitutional reasons
for keeping church and state seperate!

PROTECT THE
RIGHT TO TRAVEL FREELY!-- The government should not be in the
business of telling people where they can or cannot go. This principle was enshrined in the
Constitution and allows us all to travel around the world as tourists, business
partners, teachers and adventurers. And
yet because of outdated and unconstitutional thinking, Americans are not able
to travel to Cuba. Legislation before
the House would remove this restriction on travel and bring the country's
policies in line with 21st century thinking and the Constitution. Click here to

STOP PASSAGE OF BUSH’S REGRESSIVE ENERGY
PLAN!-- The Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives
has
declared this
week "Energy Week" in order to push the Senate to pass a handful of
bills, including the infamous Energy Policy Act of 2003 (S.
2095). Public Citizen is declaring the Energy Bill
WEAK, on account of the fact that it fails to address major problems in
America's energy
sector while
lavishing billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies on polluting industries. SEND AN E-MAIL to your senators and
representative, urging them to oppose this regressive energy policy, via Public
Citizen's Web site: http://www.citizen.org/cmep/energyweek
TELL DISNEY THAT HEALTH HAZARDS AND TOXIC

SAVE THE TREES!-- In Tasmania,
Australia, they have these trees, that are... tall. OK, a lot of trees are
tall, but these are the tallest hardwood trees in the world. We're talking
trees taller than a 25-story building and 400 years old. Some people look at
trees like this and they just think, "wow". Other people, they look
at these trees and they think, "Wow, I could cut that down, chop it up,
feed it through a wood chipper, and sell it to these companies in
Japan!" After five months in a tree
sit to prevent these forests giants being turned into wood chips the activists
are taking a well-earned break and the campaign now moves into its second phase
of focusing on the ballot boxes of the coming federal election and increasing
international pressure overseas. You
can help by contacting the Japanese companies that buy the wood chips:

TELL THE
EPA TO WITHDRAW PROPOSAL TO DUMP NUCLEAR WASTE IN OUR BACKYARDS!!-- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) has issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking regarding the
"management and disposal of low-activity radioactive waste" that
creates the possibility for dangerous nuclear waste to be disposed in dumps and
landfills that are not licensed for or designed to contain it. This would
permit certain radioactive wastes to be treated as if they were actually
non-radioactive, and therefore exempt from standards designed to isolate and
contain radiation, and prevent forced radiation exposures to the public. Visit this link to send your letter of
outrage free online: http://action.citizen.org/pc/issues/alert/?alertid=5325981.

Now!—Contact Information & Talking Points:
The Bush-Cheney energy bill is back, and it could come up for a
vote at any moment. Republicans have
signaled that they'll give as little as 24 hours' notice. We've got to get out ahead of it.
Please call your Senator(s) now, at:
Senator Patty Murray
Washington, DC:
202-224-2621
Senator Maria
Cantwell
Washington, DC:
202-224-3441
Make sure they know
you're a constituent, then urge them to:
"Please FILIBUSTER to
stop the energy bill."*
Give some reasons why
you're concerned -- some good ones are listed below.
The energy bill is still terrible. Here's what it does:
1. Delays clean-up in smoggy cities, which would increase asthma
attacks and other health problems, especially among children and elderly
people.
2. Pollutes rivers and coastal waters by exempting oil and gas
drilling from clean-up safeguards
3. Allows energy companies to rip off consumers by repealing the
Public Utility Holding Company Act.
4. Includes billions in subsidies for big oil, nuclear, timber, and
coal companies.
5. Increases air pollution and global warming with new incentives
to burn coal for electricity without adequate pollution controls.
6. Threatens drinking water by allowing the underground injection
of diesel fuel and other chemicals during oil and gas development.
7. Weakens environmental safeguards to pave the way for more oil
and gas drilling on sensitive public lands in the Rocky Mountain West.
At least sixteen
national hunting and fishing organizations oppose these provisions.
8. Locks in American dependence on foreign oil by adding new
roadblocks to better fuel economy.
9. Tramples on states' abilities to protect their coasts from
harmful oil and gas exploration by weakening their input on federal coastal
projects.
10. Promotes nuclear proliferation by reversing long-standing U.S.
policy against reprocessing waste from commercial nuclear reactors, and using
plutonium to generate commercial energy.

STOP DOCTOR EVIL!—Or, at least convince him by any means
necessary to free the tortured primate soul in his care! Dr. Fleege, Seattle dentist, has held PJ, a
capuchin monkey, in solitary confinement for over twenty years. PJ has been encased in a glass living tomb
in Dr. Fleege’s Seattle office of dentistry for over 20 years with no
socialization, minimal care, and irregular protest. He has been written by Jane Goodall, Sheri Speede, and Roger
Fouts, all reknowned primatologists begging him with academic evidence to let
PJ retire to a socially colonized primate sanctuary, Wildlife Rescue and
Rehabilitation in Texas. He has refused
to do right by PJ repeatedly. Please

campaign. If you’d like to get
involved, please e-mail us at [email protected].
Primate Freedom Project: In cooperation
with the Primate Freedom Project we will be attending the Institutional Animal
Care and Use Committee Meetings on campus with prepared comments for the mad
scientists (vivisectors) on campus. We
will also be showing documentaries that highlight the goings-on in vivisection
labs and providing literature and information to the UW public regarding the
plight of animals being tortured and killed in the name of greed at the UW and
elsewhere.
We are all in this together. It is up to each of us to decide what we are
willing, wanting, and able to do to improve the world for ourselves and
others. HEAL is founded on the
principles of freedom, respect, compassion, thinking, and action. We support all organizations who share these
principles and act in cooperation with such progressive organizations on and
off campus. While the list above
highlights our current campaigns and ideas for action, they are not set in
stone nor exclusive. If you have
passion and a progressive idea you’d like to see expanded upon or worked on,
bring it to a HEAL meeting and together we will make it happen. For us, for the animals, and for Mother
Earth...
