| After CEDU a lot of graduates I knew felt the same way: "saved life, excellent program etc." Repressed memories have a way of creeping back up, however, and of the twelve graduates, three had killed themselves within five years. Another overdosed on illicit drugs, and then the reports of suicide attempts, unwanted pregnancies, and drug addictions started to surface.
Post traumatic stress is a serious ailment, and should be considered with any survivor of such programs. I feel as if I am a stronger person for having gone through the madness of CEDU and ASCENT, but would never subject another human to what I had to endure.
Those who acclaim the practices of these institutions should seek evaluation and mental health services.
*Side Note: Human Rights violations should not have a statute of limitations. It can take years for abused individuals to come forward with their stories and finally have the courage o speak. How can one get that changed?
