I was a fresh 16 and had never experienced freedom even before this facility (which you had none upon arrival and then had to earn it in a level system/brainwashing /manipulative system. they threatened to send me and the other girls that ran to the Dominican Republic where we could not be freed or considered legal or human until 21. this threat was also used to deterothers from running away or misbehaving. if you don't mind talking about what's gone on..I'd really appreciate it. I am pretty desperate to resolve this part of my existence and i always wondered what a lawyer would think..however everyone minimalized the place and made me feel like I'd been at camp. I never knew what to do. i hope your son is back and alls well. please respond if you can and put a subject heading in the email so i don't mistake your message for spam. thank you for sharing. im sorry for your son'd pain and struggle. its absolutely revolting. | | Post Reply | |

| Date: | 4/9/2010 10:02:42 AM | Subject: | A BILL IN THE SENATE NOW! PLEASE PETITION FOR ACTION HR 911 "Stop Child Abuse in Residential Programs for Teens Act of 2009 | | HR 911 "Stop Child Abuse in Residential Programs for Teens Act of 2009" passed the House of Representatives over one year ago. Today, it continues to sit in The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee, waiting to be taken up.
This bill, if passed would protect scores of our nation's kids from abusive and unregulated private or public residential "boot camps, boarding schools, behavioral modification programs, etc." (Sect. 2 (4)(i) HR911)
There are scores of adults that bear the scars of abuse at the hands of unregulated institutions that would today be regulated by this bill. Many have contacted me and are losing hope of ever seeing justice through legislative change to protect kids today. We failed these men and women once. Let's not fail our kids today.
I urge you to sign this petition. Force a hearing in the Senate HELP committee on HR 911. Child abuse prevention is important to us, it should be of the utmost importance to those on our payroll in the US Congress.
